The National Gallery has stood in the heart of London for two hundred years, and over that time has amassed one of the greatest collections of European painting anywhere in the world. From the Wilton Diptych and the Arnolfini Portrait, to The Ambassadors, the Rokeby Venus, and the Fighting Temeraire , many of its works have become world icons of art history. But there are thousands of paintings that most people walk straight by, gems of the collection hidden in plain sight! This online talk will examine a selection of some of the National Galleries greatest ‘forgotten’ works, and reveal what makes each one of them worth a closer inspection.

In May 2025, the world's eyes were be on Rome as we mourned the death of Pope Francis, waited for the result of the conclave, and celebrated the new Pope Leo XIV appearing on the balcony of St Peter’s. There was no better time to take another look at that city of popes & painters, of architects and designers, of geniuses like Michelangelo, Raphael, and Bernini, as well as powerful papal patrons such as Julius II, Leo X, and Paul V.
